So the other night I was craving Velveeta shells & cheese, & yes, gross as it is to be reminded that Velveeta is merely a “cheese product,” I needed to have some. So we had a summer camp dinner that night & I finally got to use these old orange tin plates from camping days of the past. I love the segmented portions.

On the menu: Creamy mac ‘n’ cheese served with crisp, buttered green beans, cool canteloupe wedges, ripe red grapes, & icy cold milk.

I only went to summer camp once, when I was a Girl Scout, & I can’t for the life of me remember what food was served…I was too horrified at the thought of being away from home. I cried. A lot. I recall asking one of the counselors if I could go home. That was probably on the afternoon of the first day. Summer camp’s tough when you refuse to talk to anyone…the arts & crafts sessions were my salvation though. Lanyard keychains, paper crafts…I loved them all. Crafts were my friends when I was too quiet to make any of the human variety. I’m glad we are still close today.
